Our Local Churches
At Saighton we have strong links with our local churches, which belong to the Diocese of Chester.
We are visited often by Rev Jules Beauchamp who comes into school to lead acts of Collective Worship for us, but we also enjoy visiting our local churches, St Mary the Virgin at Bruera and St John the Baptist at Aldford. Here we join with family and other members of our local community to celebrate the Christian festivals of Harvest, Christmas and Easter, as well as saying farewell to our Year 6 children at their special Leaver’s Service.
St Mary the Virgin, Bruera
Mary Pleavin, church warden at St Mary’s, kindly invited Cavendish Class to take part in the “Bats in Churches Project” organised by the Church of England. The children visited St Mary’s where they searched for signs of bat activity – which they found! They also engaged in learning about the conservation of bats in the UK and how the Church of England is working to protect our native bat species.
St John the Baptist, Aldford
Although there has been a church on this site since early times, the current church was consecrated by the Bishop of Chester in 1866.
We always enjoy our visits to St John’s, Aldford, where we are made to feel very welcome by our school friend and church warden Mr Derek Weaver and his wife Jean.
